Step into Carmel cottage for sale for $1.895 million. A 1971 thriller was filmed here
A bright cottage in Carmel that played a part in the 1971 thriller “Play Misty for Me,” the directorial debut of Clint Eastwood, has hit the market for the first time in 20 years for $1.895 million, according to the listing.
Set back on a quiet street, just 300 steps to Carmel Beach and a short stroll from town, the 1,335-square-foot retreat offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a family room, dining room and living room with open ceilings, skylights, two wood burning fireplaces and oak floors.
It’s a piece of local lore, too. Eastwood also starred in “Play Misty for Me,” a film about a tryst between a disc jockey and an obsessed female fan that takes a frightening turn. In the movie, which also starred Jessica Walter and Donna Mills, the house is where the character Evelyn lives. The living room and fire place can be recognized.
Many Carmel area attractions are featured in “Play Misty for Me,” including the Sardine Factory Bar & Restaurant, Monterey Jazz Festival and a contemporary cliff house that overlooks the sea.
Eastwood became the mayor of Carmel in 1986 and held the office for two years.
