The latest ballot count Wednesday for the 24th District congressional race, which tallied several thousand votes in San Luis Obispo County, still shows Democrat Salud Carbajal in the lead, followed by Republicans Justin Fareed and Katcho Achadjian in third place districtwide.
The top two vote-getters will move on to a runoff in the Nov. 8 general election for the seat, which represents a district encompassing all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, plus a small portion of Ventura County.
Some mail-in and provisional ballots are still being counted in the June 7 primary.
Carbajal, a Santa Barbara County supervisor, has 31.9 percent of the vote; Fareed, a Santa Barbara businessman, has 20.8 percent; Achadjian, a San Luis Obispo state assemblyman, has 18.6 percent as of Wednesday evening.
About 6,000 ballots in San Luis Obispo County and 7,000 ballots in Santa Barbara County still must be counted, according to election officials.
