Lucia Mar: Early results show Martin, Millis and Dahl winning school board seats

Early results show that Lucia Mar school board president Colleen Martin, Mark Millis, a retired Arroyo Grande High teacher, and Oceano Community Services District board member Vern Dahl have been elected to the school board.

Martin and Millis represented the Arroyo Grande area, Dahl represents the Oceano area.

Millis is a retired Arroyo Grande high school teacher and former Arroyo Grande City Council member. He and Martin ran against Cathy Springford, a real estate agent who has been active in local schools for the past six years.

Dahl ran against Oceano resident Adelina “Nina” Grabiel.

Leaders of the county’s largest school district will consider numerous issues, from declining enrollment to boosting test scores among certain subgroups of students, during a time of financial instability caused by the state budget crisis.

Small business owner Tiffany Alcantara was unopposed for the seat representing Nipomo.

The results represent four of the 42 precincts reporting.
