In a race with all newcomers, candidate Wayne Petersen took the lead for Templeton Community Services District’s board of directors, taking in 29.9 percent of the vote in the results Tuesday night.
Behind him was Gwen Pelfrey at 27.1 percent, Rob Rosales at 24.0 percent and Navid Fardanesh at 18.6 percent.
Four candidates ran for two seats on the board.
The district will weigh what to do with its volunteer fire department, a model deemed unsustainable for the long-term.
While all the candidates think the issue should go to a public vote, Rosales hopes residents want to keep the fire department locally run before partnering with other agencies, while Navid Fardanesh thinks hiring permanent firefighting staff is inevitable. Petersen and Pelfrey remain neutral on the issue.
