Tommy Gong cruised to a win in the race to replace retiring county Clerk-Recorder Julie Rodewald.
With 81 of 163 precincts reporting, Gong received 62.56 percent of the vote while challenger Amanda King got 37.28 percent. The race featured two veteran employees of the Clerk-Recorder’s Office.
Gong is the assistant clerk-recorder, making him the No. 2 official in the office. He will take his new office in January.
Gong has served as assistant clerk-recorder for 10 years. He ran on a platform of maintaining continuity in the office.
He faced King, who is a deputy clerk-recorder. She has been with the office since 2006 and ran on a platform of her knowledge of new technology and openness to new ideas.
Gong raised seven times more money than King, according to campaign finance statements. The office has a budget of $3.1 million and employs 22 people.
