Final US Airways flight departs Philadelphia this morning

The final US Airways flight will make a stop in Charlotte on Friday as as part of a cross-country final journey that will end in Philadelphia tomorrow.

Flight 1939, named for the airline's founding year, is scheduled to depart Philadelphia International Airport at 10:05 a.m. Friday and arrive in Charlotte about two hours later. The flight also will make stops in Phoenix and San Francisco.

The Airbus A321 will return to Philadelphia on Saturday under the American Airlines banner, following the completion of a merger announced in 2013.

Charlotte is American’s second-busiest hub, behind Dallas/Fort Worth. Economic developers frequently tout the airport as one of the city’s main assets, and nonstop access to more than 140 destinations from Charlotte is a major draw for big companies.

American has repeatedly said it has no plans to cut the Charlotte hub.
