Cal Poly has logged its highest number ever of applicants with nearly 57,000 seeking admission for the 2016-2017 academic year.
The university has announced that 48,215 first-time freshmen and 8,553 upper-division transfers met the Nov. 30 deadline to submit applications for admission in the fall.
That’s a 2.8 percent increase in freshmen applications over last year and a 7.7 percent rise in the number of transfer students who applied over a year ago.
The responses on whether students have been admitted are expected to come before April 1. Fall classes begin Sept. 22.
More than 830,000 applications were submitted for admission into the California State University system for fall 2016 — a 4.8 percent increase and more than 40,000 applications over last year’s total, according to the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
