Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has awarded Cal Poly an $80,000 grant to support the university’s new Cybersecurity Center.

The center was established to foster partnerships and activities between Cal Poly students and faculty and groups including academic institutions, private companies, defense industries, government agencies and research labs.

The goals include educating thousands of students in cybersecurity and produce experts in cyber technologies and systems.

PG&E’s contribution will support the director of the Cybersecurity Center to help enable faculty relationships across colleges and faculty and student participation, offer workshops and lead other projects.

A nationwide search for a founding director is underway. PG&E also will participate as one of the founding members of the center.
