New out-of-state students began moving in to the Cal Poly dorms on Friday — the first of the groups of incoming students settling in over the weekend.
Week of Welcome activities begin Sunday and will run through Sept. 20. The university expects more than 5,000 incoming freshmen and transfer students to participate in this year’s WOW program.
The WOW activities, which aim to introduce students to the campus and community, will include academic advisement as well as awareness events that educate students on a variety of topics — including relationships, sexual assault, body image, eating disorders, drugs and alcohol, and depression.
The students also will be exposed to on-campus extracurricular activities, such as 290 student clubs, and they’ll be offered discounted activities by more than 40 local businesses.
