An Oceano man was arrested Wednesday after being accused of attacking a woman in her yard.
A woman told deputies she had gone for a walk with her 2-year-old son around 3 p.m. when she returned to her home on the 1300 block of 23rd Street in Oceano. The woman and her son entered through the backyard gate when, she said, a man in her yard grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her.
The woman was able to scream for help before the man hit her with his fist and forced her to the ground, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Three men who were driving by the home heard the woman’s screams and jumped the fence to the backyard, according to the news release. They said they saw the man holding a knife to the woman’s throat.
The three men fought with the suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Kenneth Eugene Groves, and restrained him until deputies arrived.
Groves was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats with intent to terrorize, and burglary.
