A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing another man in San Luis Obispo early Wednesday.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Higuera Street at 12:30 a.m. after a report of a stabbing, according to a San Luis Obispo Police Department news release. Officers found a 22-year-old man lying in a parking lot in the 2000 block of Parker Street. Witnesses were giving the man basic first aid before paramedics arrived.

Witnesses said Bradley Everett Porter, 27, was fighting with a woman when the victim tried to intervene, police said. Porter, described as a transient, allegedly stabbed the man several times in the upper torso and then ran away.

The victim, also a transient, was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening.

Officers found Porter walking near Higuera Street and Elks Lane at 2:30 a.m., police said. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
