An 18-year-old was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of burglary after an Arroyo Grande woman allegedly caught him breaking into her home.

San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2500 block of Snowcone Place at about 10:30 a.m. after a woman home alone allegedly encountered James Benjamin Scott in her house, a department news release said.

Scott fled and was walking down the street when neighbors who’d been alerted to the situation confronted him. He allegedly admitted he’d planned to burglarize the home, and neighbors called the Sheriff’s Office.

When Scott allegedly ran away, three male neighbors tackled him and held him until deputies arrived.

A search revealed Scott was allegedly carrying a small knife and a hammer. Scott was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools. He remained in the San Luis Obispo County Jail on Friday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
