A Templeton man questioned by police Sunday night after allegedly urinating in a private driveway was later found to be in possession of an ounce of heroin, the Paso Robles Police Department said Monday.

At about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Tanner Drive for a report of a suspicious vehicle by a resident who witnessed a man get out of a vehicle and urinate on the resident's driveway.

Officers reportedly found Mario Sanchez Jr., 23, outside the residence. At some point during their investigation of Sanchez, officers allegedly discovered approximately one ounce of heroin as well as an undisclosed amount of cash and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.

When asked how the heroin was discovered, Paso Robles police Lt. Tim Murphy said Monday via email that Sanchez was not on probation — which could have made him subject to search — but that officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle during their contact with Sanchez.

Sanchez was arrested without incident and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance, both felonies.

As of Monday afternoon, he was no longer listed as in custody, according to jail logs.
