Authorities are investigating a report of a sexual assault in a rural area just outside San Luis Obispo.
Details are few, but the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Thursday afternoon that it received a report at 1:25 p.m. that a sexual assault had occurred on the 1400 block of O’Connor Way.
The report came from a mandatory reporter, or as sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla explained, a person such as a doctor, teacher or counselor who is required to notify authorities if informed of certain criminal conduct. Cipolla said he could not reveal who made the report.
Detectives responded to the location and remained working with forensic specialists processing the possible crime scene.
Cipolla gave no descriptions of suspects or victims in the case and said Thursday evening that the investigation remained ongoing.
He said more information is expected to be released in the coming days.
