The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office filed charges Friday against Robert George Roe Jr., who was arrested two days earlier in an undercover sex sting at a San Luis Obispo motel.

Roe, 55, now faces felony charges of arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, according to a District Attorney's Office news release.

The charges carry with them a possible sentence of state prison time, the release said.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department said Thursday that Roe is a registered sex offender following a conviction in 1987 in Arizona.

Roe, who officials say does not have a known city of residence, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after posting graphic images on the website Craigslist and attempting to contact underage girls for sex, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

An anonymous citizen tip alerted police, and an undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old girl contacted Roe, who allegedly set up a meeting at a San Luis Obispo motel.

He is scheduled to enter a plea in San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Monday.

As of Friday afternoon, Roe remained in San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
