An Atascadero couple was arrested Friday after authorities responded to a fire at a home on El Camino Real and found evidence of an illegal honey oil lab.
The Atascadero police and fire departments responded to a report of a structure fire at a single-family dwelling shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.
Though the fire was already extinguished by the time they arrived, upon investigation, authorities determined it was caused by an illegal honey oil lab explosion. Police believe that Kevin Manhart, 34, and Danielle Manhart, 23, were manufacturing marijuana honey oil from the home.
The couple’s 1-year-old child was at the house at the time of the incident. The child was uninjured and turned over to Child Protective Services.
The Manharts received minor burns to their upper extremities from the explosion. They were booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance and child endangerment, both felonies.
As of Sunday at 2 p.m., Danielle Manhart had been released from County Jail; Kevin Manhart was still in custody, with bail set at $500,000.
