Authorities have made an arrest following a seven-month investigation into animal cruelty after a steer was found burned at the Paso Robles High School barn.
Garrett Evan Kaplan, 23, was arrested Friday on the 1100 block of Dorothy Street in Paso Robles after investigators obtained a warrant for suspicion of felony animal cruelty. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
Police received a report on Oct. 26 after a student at the school, a member of the National FFA Organization, visited a 5-month-old steer at the barn to feed it and found that it had been burned overnight. The animal suffered significant burns in the incident but survived.
No reason has been released for why investigators believe Kaplan burned the animal.
