Acting on a tip, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at the County Jail on May 16 and found a controlled substance hidden behind postage stamps on several pieces of mail addressed to an inmate.
The mail was addressed to Thomas Richard Rodriguez, Jr., 26, of Grover Beach, who was in custody for various drug offenses, officials said.
An investigator discovered strips of Suboxone, an opioid antagonist used to treat symptoms of opioid addiction but which also has the potential of abuse, hidden under the stamps.
The letters allegedly were sent by Linda Vanessa Johns, 25, of Oceano, at Rodriguez’s request, authorities said.
