99 arrested in holiday crackdown on drunken driving in SLO

A countywide holiday crackdown on drunken driving resulted in 99 arrests between Dec. 13 and New Year’s Day, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

That arrest total of those suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol was down from 114 during the same 20-day period a year ago.

The campaign was coordinated between 10 county law enforcement agencies.

No DUI-related traffic fatalities have occurred over the holidays in the past two years. And DUI-related injuries were reduced from five a year ago to four this holiday period.

DUI stops will be conducted on Super Bowl Sunday in February and again on St. Patrick’s Day in March this year to encourage safe driving.

Officers set up sobriety checkpoints countywide as part of the operation.
