A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening a Rite Aid employee with a knife and stealing a pair of headphones.
An employee at the Rite Aid drugstore on Johnson Avenue in San Luis Obispo called police at 9:40 a.m. to report a robbery, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department. A man had been looking at a pair of stereo headphones when an employee reportedly saw him trying to cut the security device from the packaging with a knife. When the employee asked the man if he needed assistance, he turned the knife toward the employee in a threatening manner, said he was stealing the headphones and ordered the employee not to interfere, according to police.
The man then walked toward the front door, where he was approached by a second employee. Once again, he raised the knife and demanded the employee move out of the way, according to police.
Officers found the man, identified as 34-year-old Douglas Hunt, a short distance away wearing the stolen headphones around his neck, police said.
Hunt was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
