UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: The 2-year-old girl allegedly abused by her father died around 10 p.m. Tuesday at a Bay Area hospital, according to a news release from Paso Robles police.
Her father, Herbert Brown III, has been charged with murder and assault resulting in the death of a child.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week, police said.

Around 5 a.m. Monday, the Paso Robles Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 200 block of Santa Ysabel Avenue in Paso Robles in response to a report of a 2-year-old girl not breathing. The child had visible injuries to her head and body that appeared to be the result of child abuse, according to a news release by the Police Department.
The child was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton for treatment, and has since been transferred to a Bay Area hospital for continued treatment, police said.
The child’s father, 29-year-old Herbert Brown III of Paso Robles, was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of child abuse likely to result in death, according to the news release. Brown is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and San Luis Obispo County Child Welfare Services. Police say they will release further details when they become available.
