A third man has been arrested in connection with a panga boat that was abandoned about 4 miles north of the Piedras Blancas Light Station on Tuesday.
CHP officers spotted Jose Lopez Lopez, 44, walking along Highway 1 about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday north of a closed motel at Piedras Blancas, said Tony Cipolla, San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s spokesman.
Lopez gave officers a false name after they stopped to talk to him, Cipolla said. Lopez was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide satisfactory identification as well as providing false identification. He is being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail on an immigration hold.
Officers believed he was connected to the small, sturdy panga boat found onshore because of certain items he had on him, Cipolla said, declining to elaborate.
