SLO man arrested, another escapes after breaking into cars, police say

An 18-year-old San Luis Obispo man was arrested and another man escaped early Sunday morning after allegedly burglarizing cars.

At 3 a.m. Sunday, San Luis Obispo police responded to a report of two men looking into cars at Kentucky and Fredericks streets. An officer found the suspects, exited his patrol car and approached them, said Lt. Keith Storton in a news release.

The two men dropped the property they were holding and fled when they saw the officer. The officer gave pursuit and apprehended Luis Javier Martin. The other man was not captured.

An investigation revealed that the property the men dropped at the scene was stolen from parked vehicles.

Martin was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property and resisting arrest. The investigation to determine the other man’s identity continues.
