An Oceano man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly breaking into cars in Grover Beach, and now police are looking for anyone in the South County who may be missing items after their vehicles were burglarized overnight.

Grover Beach police officers were called to Oak Park Boulevard and The Pike after an off-duty sheriff's deputy saw someone messing with parked vehicles, according to a news release from the Grover Beach Police Department.

Officers found Matthew J. Ortega, 21, inside a car that did not belong to him, according to the news release. After further investigation, officers said Ortega broke into numerous other vehicles in Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and Oceano overnight.

Ortega was arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of vehicle burglary.

Officers now have some property believed to have been stolen by Ortega overnight. Witnesses or victims of recent vehicle burglaries are asked to call Grover Beach Detective Michael Hollis at 473-4570.
