Following a monthlong investigation, Pismo Beach police have arrested a Grover Beach man on suspicion of attempted murder.

James Heinrichs, 49, is being held on $500,000 bail at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. He was arrested Saturday, Jan. 21.

According to a news release from Pismo Beach police, officers went to Motel 6 on Dec. 13 to respond to a report of a disturbance with shots possibly having been fired. They were unable to find any victims or witnesses.

However, investigators continued to look into the report, and the following day investigators found evidence of “a drug deal gone bad.” They eventually located the alleged victim’s vehicle, which had a bullet hole in the windshield, in Los Angeles.

During the investigation, police said, an arrest warrant and two search warrants were obtained and served, resulting in the recovery of a firearm that is believed to have been used in the shooting.
