A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into cars on Highland Drive.

Police received a 911 call at 9:42 p.m. from someone saying a man was breaking into a vehicle in the 200 block of Highland Drive, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department. The owner of the truck the man was breaking into confronted the man and yelled for help. Several neighbors responded and detained the suspect, identified as 56-year-old David Boyer, until police arrived.

Boyer had property with him that was stolen from another resident during a previous theft, according to police. The evidence was photographed and returned to the owner.

Boyer was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property and theft of personal property. He was booked into County Jail, where bail was set at $20,000.
