A 30-year-old Oceano man was found guilty this week on six felony charges relating to sex crimes against three children in the South County, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Robert Elias Palomo was convicted by a jury Tuesday in San Luis Obispo Superior Court of three counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration against a child under 10 and three counts of a lewd act upon a child.
Palomo faces a minimum sentence of 45 years to life in prison. He’s scheduled to appear for sentencing before Judge John Trice on Dec. 13.
The charges related to incidents involving three young girls, all South County residents, between the ages of 5 and 10 at the time of the molestations.
The crimes took place in Grover Beach and the Oceano areas, according to investigators.
Palomo knew each of the children, one of whom he was related to, and was in a position of responsibility and supervision of the children that enabled him to commit his crimes, according to evidence the prosecution presented at trial.
The incidents occurred between the years of 2007 and 2010. The case was investigated by the Grover Beach Police Department and the county Sheriff’s Department.
Greg Devitt handled the case for the prosecution. Raymond Allen represented Palomo.
Allen said he felt like he defended his client as well as he could have. He said that he’ll file a notice of appeal and pursue appellate remedies, seeking a reduction to the sentence.
Allen said he wishes his client the best, saying that he has come to know him well over the course of the case.
“I would say the sentence he’s going to receive is amongst the harshest anyone gets in the state of California,” Allen said. “There’s good reason to be somber and sober about it.”
