33 people arrested in DUI crackdown over July Fourth weekend

Thirty-three people were arrested countywide on charges of driving while drunk or stoned over the July Fourth holiday weekend — an increase over last year’s long weekend when 13 drivers were arrested on DUI charges.

Eleven county law enforcement agencies united as the Independence Day Weekend Avoid the 14 DUI Task Force, which included three “DUI saturation patrols” and officers on routine patrol focusing attention on impaired drivers, according to a news release.

If there was a bright spot in this year’s long weekend, there were no deaths attributed to alcohol. Last year there was one alcohol-related death over the July Fourth weekend.
