San Luis Obispo County sheriff's deputies arrested two people Friday night after receiving reports that a woman was “dry firing” a flare gun at an Avila Beach bar.

Deputies arrested Kerry Jay Johnson, 44, of Boulder Creek, Calif., on suspicion of threatening a public official, a felony. A 25-year-old woman from Aptos was arrested on suspicion of displaying a firearm in a threatening manner, a misdemeanor.

According to a news release, deputies responded to Mr. Rick’s at 404 Front St. at 10:10 p.m. after they received a report that the woman was “firing” the flare gun without ammunition.

Someone appeared to be loading the firearm, but it wasn’t clear from the news release which of the suspects it might have been.

Both were booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail; neither remained in custody this afternoon, according to the sheriff’s department’s website.
