San Luis Obispo police said Sunday that they arrested a local teen early Saturday accused of taking property out of unlocked cars near Cal Poly.

He was caught after someone in the neighborhood around Hathaway Avenue and Stafford Street alerted authorities just before 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Officers reportedly found John Montgomery Edmunson, who was identified by a witness as being the same man opening the parked, unlocked cars, according to police.

Police say they found him with property stolen from multiple vehicles, as well with as illegal drugs.

They booked him into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property and illegal drugs. His bail was set at $20,000.

Jail records indicate he was no longer in custody as of Sunday night.
