Paso Robles man arrested after allegedly fighting with police officers

A Paso Robles man was arrested Monday after allegedly behaving oddly on Spring Street.

Numerous people called 911 at approximately 11:35 a.m. saying a person in the 1500 block of Spring Street was taking down American flags displayed in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The person was also reportedly walking in the roadway and "acting in a bizarre manner."

An officer found a man walking northbound in the 1200 block of Spring Street and said he continued to display bizarre behavior and was uncooperative, according to a news release from the Paso Robles Police Department. The man refused to comply with the officer's instructions and became combative.

It ultimately took seven officers to subdue the man and take him into custody, according to police.

The man was later identified as Casey Casteel, 25. Both Casteel and two officers received minor injuries during the incident. Casteel was taken to a local hospital by ambulance before being booked into County Jail on suspicion of batter on a police officer and resisting arrest.

The two officers were treated at the scene.
