An Arroyo Grande man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to four felony charges relating to sex crimes that allegedly involved a minor.

Robert Westley Thomas, 54, entered his plea in Judge John Trice’s courtroom to two counts of lewd acts against a minor as a caretaker, sexual penetration with a foreign object, and rape of an unconscious person.

Thomas is scheduled to be in court Jan. 4 for a hearing to determine whether his bail should be reduced.

He’s currently in custody in County Jail in lieu of $150,000.

Thomas was arrested at 5 am. Dec. 22 after a five-hour manhunt. Authorities had initially responded to a report of a rape in progress around 11:50 p.m. the night before. They found a 15-year-old girl unconscious and vomiting at an Arroyo Grande home. The suspect, later identified as Thomas, had left on foot before officers arrived.

The girl was taken a local hospital and has since been released.
