Alleged car thief leads Pismo Beach police into Santa Maria

After a high-speed chase into Santa Maria, police arrested a man accused of stealing a car from a home in Shell Beach overnight Sunday.

Marcus Lee Williams, 20, was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving while evading an officer, receiving stolen property and car theft — all felonies — and misdemeanor vandalism, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

He remained there as of late Sunday in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to the jail.

Just after 2:30 a.m., a woman reported that she heard her car being pulled away from her home, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

Officers found the car along southbound Highway 101 at Five Cities Drive, and tried to pull it over near Halcyon Road, police said.

Williams led Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach police officers on a chase into Santa Maria, police allege. There, he reportedly crashed the car into a school.

He ran away, but with the help of Santa Maria and Arroyo Grande officers, Williams was arrested, according to police.
