Man arrested after allegedly hanging out at Nipomo park with young girls present

A 21-year-old man was arrested after allegedly sliding down the slide and talking to young girls at a Nipomo playground.

An off-duty Cal Fire employee became suspicious when he saw a man on the playground near Dana Elementary School at 6:21 p.m. Thursday, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. The man was wearing a backpack with a teddy bear motif.

Deputies checked the area and found Christopher Tietjen near Tefft and Magenta. Witnesses say he was the man seen in the playground area talking to the girls, who were between the ages of 1 and 5.

A records check showed Tietjen was on probation from a previous similar offense and is not supposed to associate with children.

Tietjen was booked at County Jail on suspicion of annoying children under 18 years of age. He remained there as of Friday morning in lieu of $100,000 bail.
