The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department has identified the Salinas man arrested Friday night after he allegedly hit a deputy with a truck in an attempt to flee authorities at Nacimiento Lake.

Michael Garrett Youngblood, 26, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after deputies responded about 7:40 Friday night to a disturbance at a crowded campground near the lake.

Authorities said several deputies responded to the altercation and tried to apprehend Youngblood. The man then allegedly got into a pickup truck and ran over a tent as he tried to get away.

One deputy then shot at the truck, which then hit the deputy, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Rob Bryn said.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken by helicopter to Twin Cities Community Hospital and has undergone surgery for a compound fracture to his leg.

Youngblood was not injured.

Youngblood is on parole for an undetermined conviction, Bryn said. He remained Saturday at County Jail without bail.
