A 21-year-old college student was assaulted early Wednesday while walking home alone from downtown San Luis Obispo, police said.
At about 1:40 a.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Fredericks Street for a reported assault and talked to the female victim, according to a department news release.
The woman told officers she was walking home from downtown when a man jumped out from some bushes, grabbed her, and pinned her to the ground. She told police she was able to break free from the man and strike him several times in the face, police said.
The woman then ran to her house and called police. She was not injured in the incident. The man, described as standing about six feet tall and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, has not been found and an investigation into the alleged assault remained ongoing Wednesday.
Investigators are trying to determine if this incident is related to other similar assaults in the city. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 781-7317.
