A Los Osos man has been charged with three felonies for killing an elderly pedestrian while allegedly driving under the influence.
According to the San Luis Obispo Police Department, Dennis Aaron Whittinghill, 63, was driving under the influence around 6 p.m. June 19 when he began to turn west onto Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo from Broad Street. As he was making the turn, his car allegedly struck Alvino Gonzales Figueroa, 89, of Redlands, who was crossing the street. Figueroa was initially placed in intensive care at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and was removed from life support June 22.
Whittinghill, who appeared in San Luis Obispo Superior Court for an arraignment Thursday, had previously posted $100,000 bond.
His arraignment was continued to August 27.

On July 16, the District Attorney’s Office charged him with three felonies — vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level causing injury. The prosecution added two enhancements for great bodily injury.
