The Atascadero Police Department is planning a DUI checkpoint to look for impaired drivers between 7 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Friday night and into Saturday morning.
The department has not said where the checkpoint will be held but said in a news release Wednesday that checkpoints are held in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of past DUI arrests as well as public safety considerations.
Drivers caught driving under the influence can expect penalties including jail time, DUI classes, fines, fees, and other expenses that can total more than $10,000.
