The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 33-year-old man Wednesday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter in New Cuyama.
About 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, authorities responded to the 5000 block of Highway 166 after receiving a report of a person down on the side of the roadway, according to police.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that 41-year-old Travis John Studer, of New Cuyama, was found dead, and the scene appeared to be suspicious.
Deputies determined Studer had likely been struck by a vehicle after an apparent altercation that likely took place on a nearby property, police said.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Bureau assisted with the ensuing investigation and identified Doug Allen Lewis as the suspect.
Lewis, also of New Cuyama, was taken into custody and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail. His bail was set at $50,000.
