Paul Butterfield, Broncos’ top cross-country runner, came in first (17 minutes, 18 seconds) in the Broncos’ dual meet with Mission Prep at Coast Union on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The rest of the boys field for Coast Union included: Dante Garcia, fourth in 18:50; Nic Roper, eighth in 21:08; Will Stephenson, 14th in 23:04; David May, 15th in 24:32; Tyler Seng, 16th in 24:58; Sam MacKinnon, 17th in 25:52; Nic Robertson, 18th in 26:08; and Cesar Hernandez, 20th in 30:42.

Ethan Walters did not run, and coach Jim Hurley said “he was missed” during the competition.

Mission Prep defeated the boys 23-42 (lower score wins).

On the girls side, Bella Raethke came in first (21:31); Shannon Clark was second (22:22); Vanessa Ramirez was fifth (24:39); and Iveth De Jesus came in 10th (27:28). Coach Hurley said it was unfortunate that Gigi Stoothoff was ill and could not compete, because had she been running that day the Lady Broncos may well have finished 1, 2 and 3.

Dual meet rules require five runners for each gender in order to be counted in the final score. Since Coast only had four, the girls were not qualified to be included in the final score.
