Nathaniel Clegg and Gustavo Catalan of Cambria teamed up with Joe Escobar of Morro Bay to take top honors in Xtreme Bronc Riding at the 2015 Santa Maria Rodeo this past weekend, competing for the Nate Clegg Team.
The men each won a Weatherby shotgun and prize money, and will be featured in the PRCA Rodeo Magazine.
Catalan and Clegg say they have been friends for years. When Clegg became interested in rodeo sport three years ago he called Catalan and the two teamed up.
Xtreme Bronc Riding is a three-man-team rough-stock sport. Clegg and Catalan serve as the team’s ground crew and have worked with several riders during their career.
They have competed in more than 100 rodeos in many western states, finishing fourth in the 2013 National Finals and currently ranking No. 2 in the nation.
The Santa Maria rodeo was the second rodeo of the 2015 season that will see the team travel to more than 30 rodeos, including the New Mexico State Fair Extravaganza and Cheyenne Frontier Days, set for July 17-26 in Wyoming.
If you want to come watch the team locally, Clegg and Catalan will be competing in the California Mid-State Fair rodeo Aug. 1-2 in Paso Robles, and Monterey Bull Fest (dates and times to be determined).
When the men are not rodeoing, Clegg can be found working as a Meat Manager at the Cookie Crock Warehouse in Morro Bay. And you can find Catalan as the front desk supervisor at the Best Western Plus Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon. Both men were born and raised in Cambria and graduated from Coast Union High School.
Clegg lives in Cambria with his wife, Jessica, and son, Joseph, on their family Cattle Ranch. Catalan lives also lives in Cambria, with his longtime girlfriend, Myrriah Miller.
