Entering spring break the Bronco baseball team is 3-0 in the Coast Valley League, thanks to a sound drubbing of Maricopa (18-2) on Friday, March 22. Austin Eide knocked in three runs with a double and a single, Emmany Godinez went three-for-four and Lane Sutherland had two hits in two at-bats.
Coach Brian Machado likes to get all his players in the game and the only chance he has to do that is when the Broncos are scoring a lot of runs and lead by huge scores. “I like to get everybody in there because in a tight game the back-up players aren’t going to get many opportunities,” he said.
Machado also understands that while some of his hitters do very well against weak pitching — which they are expected to do — the good news is they gain confidence by belting the ball around the park. “That’s what it is, going up to the plate, putting the bat on the ball, and gaining confidence.”
The Broncos play two away games (April 5 at Orcutt Academy; April 9 at Shandon) before hosting their next home game at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, versus Cuyama Valley.
