The Bronco boys varsity soccer players put their talents, their training and their excellent 12-2-2 season on the line in a CIF playoff match today, Feb. 16. Coast Union goes up against the Vistamar High School Vikings at 3 p.m. on the Cambria campus, 2950 Santa Rosa Creek Road.
Vistamar, out of El Segundo, has an overall record this season of 7-4-3 and in their league they are 6-0-2. According to the Max- Preps data, the Vikings have been very stingy on defense, giving up less than two goals (1.692) per match.
The Broncos are even more grudging on defense, giving up less than a goal per game (.604). Their offense has been very impressive, particularly Victor Casas, who has nailed 30 goals in the team’s 16 games — nearly averaging two goals a game.
Casas also has seven assists for the Broncos, and has amassed a stunning total of 67 points. Luis DeAlba has 14 goals, eight assists and 36 total points for Coast Union going into the playoffs.

Juan Leonardo had four saves in goal for the Broncos in that win over the Royals, and on the season Leonardo has saved 43 goals.
When asked about his team’s preparation for the CIF tilt, head coach Moises Jimenez said, “Going into our playoff match, nothing will change. We will have our usual practice, and hopefully will be relaxed and prepared going into our match.”
As he enters the post season for the second straight year, Jimenez adds, “Personally, I feel that we are all healthy and ready for the next challenge and chapter of our season.”
There are 32 teams in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. Second round matches will be played Tuesday, Feb. 21.
