Coast Union’s varsity volleyball team roared through the Coast Valley League without a loss this season — the Lady Broncos went 12-0 in league play — and they won their initial playoff games 3-0 and 3-0.
But Tuesday night, Nov. 16, their winning streak — and their season — came to an abrupt halt as Firebaugh of Lynwood beat them on their home court in the semifinal match, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21).
The Broncos fell behind in each game, fought back again and again and extended rallies impressively. But they committed errors at critical moments and Firebaugh made them pay.
“Firebaugh just wouldn’t let the ball hit the ground,” said Broncos coach Pam Kenyon.
