Summer youth baseball will be on the sports menu Sunday, July 12, at noon on the Coast Union baseball field, as the SLO War Cats’ 14-and-under team takes on the SLO War Cats’ 16-and-under team.
SLO War Cats manager Anthony Koeninger said he put together talented young baseball players from across San Luis Obispo County, and when the two teams tangled last Sunday at Coast Union, the 16-and-under team won 11-8.
“It was a really tight game — nip and tuck all the way through,” Koeninger said. In fact, with the exception of one player on the 16-and-under (team), all the players are 14 and 15, “so they’re not that much older than the 14-and-under team.”
Koeninger, a history teacher at Cuesta College over the past 33 years, said he hopes to include some players from the Coast Union’s baseball team as the summer season continues. More information on the teams is available at www.slowarcats.com.
