Cyclists participating in the annual Ride 2 Recovery event will pass through San Simeon and Cambria next week on their way south.
Ride 2 Recovery is a groundbreaking veterans program started in 2008 that restores hope and purpose for wounded veterans. The Golden State Challenge, one of seven rides staged by the program, starts Oct. 17 in Sunnyvale and concludes Oct. 24 with the last of eight stages, from Ventura to West Los Angeles.
In addition to San Simeon, stops along the way are Santa Cruz, Carmel, Pismo Beach, Solvang and Ventura.
Riders will arrive in San Simeon for an overnight stay starting about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. After staying overnight with a dinner and campfires on the bluff, they will depart at 9:30 the following day for Pismo Beach.
