The Coastal Discovery Center in San Simeon is hosting an informational meeting for people who may want to become docents at the center. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, at Rabobank, 1070 Main St.
Trainee docents, who must be at least 18 years old, learn in a series of classes about the natural and cultural history of the area, and about the benefits of being a docent. They can then share what they’ve learned with people from all over the world who visit the small center at W.R. Hearst State Beach.
Docents also conduct citizen science and research and can make new friends while enriching and enhancing the experience of park visitors. The volunteers contribute seven hours a month, primarily on weekends.
For details, contact Nicole Uibel, docent coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call her at 927-6291.
The center features a variety of interactive displays geared to families, but of interest to all. The facility, co-sponsored by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and State Parks, is in a former bait shop near the pier at San Simeon Bay.
Visit the center on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
