Secure those scarecrows. That’s the message from Michelle Costa, who said her Lady Gaga scarecrow was stolen Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8, from her home on Randall Drive.
Costa, who has displayed other scarecrows in the past, said a neighbor witnessed the theft and tried to give chase but was unable to follow the thief.
“The display itself required more space, so we had brought it down from the tree where we normally would anchor it,” she said. “We just hadn’t found a way to lock it up yet. (The thief) was pretty bold, because it happened at 3 in the afternoon.”
Costa said the scarecrow was new this year, a project she started with an exchange student from Italy over the summer, then finished with her daughter. It had only been on display for four days. She estimated its worth at $200, and she said she wanted to publicize the theft because she had noticed other scarecrows around town weren’t secure.
“In this community, it is a good idea to try to get the word out,” she said.
Anyone with information about the scarecrow is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 781-4550, or Costa at 459-8721 or 459-7582.
