Wind topples tree, power knocked out in Cambria neighborhood

A wind-toppled tree took Cambria power lines with it when it fell at about 3:21 p.m. Monday, leaving 754 PG&E customers without electricity for about an hour.

By 5:45 p.m., 73 customers still were out of power, according to Blair Jones, spokesman for the utility.

Firefighters from Cambria Fire Department, who got the original call by phone, also were at the scene, near the corner of Pineridge Drive and Bradford Road in the Top of the World neighborhood on the southeast corner of Cambria.

Wind gusts of 40 mph and above were reported along the North Coast, although they apparently weren't as stiff at Hearst Castle, which was able to remain open throughout the day despite the windstorm.
