On Thursday, Caltrans plans to open one lane for vehicles and cyclists in a stretch of Highway 1 in Big Sur where a rockslide occurred last weekend.

The highway has been closed since the slide occurred on Sunday afternoon. The closure is just south of Deetjens Big Sur Inn (mile marker 42) and Lucia (mile marker 23).

Traffic will be let through the slide area on Thursday at three different times — 8 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. Traffic flow will be strictly controlled during these times, Caltrans said in a news release.

Big Sur businesses remain open, and alternate routes for motorists are Highways 68, 101, 46 and Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. Message signs have been activated to advise motorists of the closure.
